The focus of our research group is on synthesis, characterization, and performance enhancement of new and existing cementitious materials that are used for infrastructure and building applications. The goal is to develop new low-embodied-energy and highly recycled cements, and to create new tools to predict and enhance the durability and enable preventative maintenance of concrete structures.

  • Reaction mechanisms, performance assessment, and novel mitigation tools for alkali-silica reaction in concrete (NSF-CAREER)
  • Next generation durability-enhancing admixtures to extend the life and reduce the life-cycle costs of concrete infrastructure (ENGINE)
  • Performance and feasibility of using recovered fly ash and fluidized bed combustion (FBC) fly ash as concrete pozzolan (ACI)
